In January, Mercedes Benz introduced its all-electric entry base SUV to the public, simply named the EQA. This compact model is the identical brother of the GLA—a gasoline and diesel engine alternative. The EQA’s sale price begins at approximately 57,300 dollars (about 47,540 Euros).
The Mercedes EQA measures 4,463 mm long, 1,834 mm wide, 1,620 mm high and has a wheelbase of 2,729 mm. It is slightly longer (23mm) and slightly taller (9mm) than the GLA, but maintains the same width. It has a total weight of 2,040 kg (4,497 pounds). On the outside, the EQA is highly reminiscent of its brother, the GLA; however, it also adopts typical features of the EQ family, such as the EQC-style blind grille. The same applies to the lower side intakes and the cooling, which occurs through the lower central stripes just below the license plate. When combined, these features result in an aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.28 Cx.
The lights contained within both the front and rear headlights are full, standard LED. It should be noted that a strip of LED lights interconnects the two headlights, highlighting the width of the vehicle and increasing its visibility. The headlights include a subtle blue stripe that indicates the electric nature of this compact truck.
The light alloy wheels are 18 inches, as standard. When ordering the EQA, these wheels can be swapped for an optional 20-inch. They come in a two-color or three-color design, with decorative elements in rose gold or blue to suit the customer’s specific taste. The tires assigned for this SUV are Continental EcoContact 6.
The New Mercedes Benz EQA comes with an asynchronous electric motor located on the front axle that is capable of generating 188 HP (140 kW) and 277 lb-ft of torque (375 Nm). It can start from 0-62 mph (0-100 km / h) in 8.9 seconds, all the way to an electronically-limited top speed of 99 mph (160 km / h). The powertrain is comprised of a series of double-deck lithium-ion batteries with a usable capacity of 66.5 kW. According to Mercedes Benz, this model (EQA 250) promises a maximum range in the WLTP cycle of 265 miles (426 km).
To recharge the vehicle’s batteries, Mercedes Benz has ensured that the EQA supports voltages of up to 420 V using a Wallbox or a public charging station. With a minimum power of 11 kW in AC, it will take approximately 5 hours and 45 minutes to charge the EQA to 100%. Incredibly, the vehicle can fast-charge from 5% to 80% in just 30 minutes, thanks to the fact that it supports loads of up to 100 kW.
Within the new EQA’s interior, we can see clear nods to its brother, the GLA, such as the continuous line, pink gold backlit elements in the seats, round fan-type diffusers and the vehicle key. The cabin also features ambient lighting that can be adjusted between 64 different colors. The vehicle includes the standard MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment system, as well as a digital dashboard that can be chosen with either a 7-inch screen or the 10.25-inch (26 cm) widescreen version. As an option, the Head-Up Display and navigation system with augmented reality will be offered.
The new EQA is available for sale in three finishes: the basic model (Progressive), an intermediate model (Electric Art), and the AMG Line.
